The current microfilm reader can no longer be repaired as parts are no longer available.
Your contribution will ensure continued research support at DCHS with up-to-date, reliable equipment.
DCHS was recently notified by the MN Historical Society that we have been awarded a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant for $7000 to be used for the purchase of a new Microfilm Reader/Scanner. Anyone who does research at DCHS uses the microfilm reader and knows how crucial it is. Since parts are no longer available for the current Reader, it is essential to replace this equipment in order to fulfill our Mission”…to discover, preserve and disseminate the history of the county and its people.”
The new Reader will read any type of microfiche film for view on a computer screen with quick printing from the desktop. USB ports are also available to save files to a portable file.
The $7000 grant covers most of the cost, however, an additional $3000 is needed to complete the purchase and installation. Currently, $500 has been raised and proceeds from the Bean Soup Lunch on 2/5/13 will add to the needed amount.
Please consider a contribution–the change in your pocket, $1, $5, $10…all add up.
